Paddling Under The Light Of The Midnight Sun

It’s been months in the planning, lots of training in freezing rainy weather, a weekend expedition to the mountains, much equipment testing, but now we are ready.

How ready? Well, back in January this year PlanetVisible was looking for a new kind of adventure. It needed to be a beautiful place with a particular feel and physically challenging with a touch of danger.

Enter Norway. Now of course it’s beautiful up there but it is also heavily visited and we were looking for remoteness. We kept following the map north and then more north and north again until we ended up even more north than Tromsø. In fact way up into the Arctic Circle. We spied some outlying islands with no road connection, unpredictable weather and the isolation we were seeking.

What’s on offer up there? Not much apart from being surrounded by incredible scenery, rare wildlife both on land and sea and all this under the unique atmosphere of the midnight sun. And to make it all the more special we have decided to explore on Stand Up Paddle boards. This means being totally self-supported – everything from food, water, camping gear, clothing, not to mention our photography equipment, all of which will have to be strapped down to the boards in waterproof bags. This needs the right equipment and a lot of preparation.

The good news is that we are only weeks away from leaving and we would love it if you guys could follow our journey. We will be posting photos from the amazing landscapes and adding some comments as we paddle. It will be nice to have some outside interaction.
